Turning Big Bang is a fan-event where artists and writers are paired together to create a 5,000+ word fic accompanied by an illustration. Participants generally find that the partnership and built-in check-ins help them finish works that would otherwise be challenging to do alone. All works created for the event are kept confidential until posting time. After the final check-in, all pairs are assigned a date to post their work so that (ideally) the Turning fandom will be flooded with fanworks for several days, and we can all have a nice feast!Learn more by clicking the links below!

GUIDELINES & INFORMATION
Q: Would someone with no prior experience doing something like this be allowed to join?
A: Yes! New writers/artists/betas are all welcome and encouraged to join!
Q: I already have an artist/writer/beta partner in mind. Can I join together with them?
A: Yes, just indicate that in your sign-up form or inform a mod at some point before matching ends.
Q: Can I join the Discord even though I'm not participating?
A: Yes, you can join as a cheerleader just to vibe with and support fellow Turning fans!
Discord link: here
Q: Do I have to be on the Discord to participate?
A: Yes, at least until after matching is complete, so your partner has an easy way of making first contact. After greeting your partner(s), you can choose to move to another platform for work discussions, as long as you still check your email/Discord announcements regularly, check-in/submit on time, and keep in contact with your partner somewhere else.
Q: Will the event allow NSFW work?
A: Yes, all not-safe-for-work (NSFW) works are allowed as long as they include proper tags/warnings in their summary. We will allow participants under 18 to join, but they will not be given access to channels/works marked NSFW. Other participants may also request that they not be matched to anyone under 18, in case they are unsure if their work will go in an NSFW direction in the future, or they are just uncomfortable with that.
Q: Will there be a pinch hitter?
A: Yes, participants can volunteer to become a pinch-hitter alongside their main role(s) or join as a pinch-hitter only.
Q: Regarding the check-in requirement, I usually write a lot more near the deadline, like I might write the outline and some parts throughout the week, but 50% of the writing is usually done about 2-3 weeks before the deadline. So, I’m asking if the requirement check-in is reinforced, or as long as we made progress and still interested in the event, it’s still okay?
A: The check-in requirements can be waived as long as both author and artist are comfortable with the pace; they are more of a suggestion than a hard requirement.
However, if your fic progress isn't enough for your partner to come up with an idea and result in delays of the check-in submissions and overall progress, this would be a good time for both parties to communicate to come up with a solution. If neither side can compromise, please contact the mods and we will do our best to re-pair with a pinch-hitter.
Q: How do we know whose work we’re gonna beta-read - Will it match or not? Also, where will the others post their summary or sketches? That’s all.
A: Writers will have the option of requesting a beta-match or opting out/bringing their own pre-arranged beta.
If they request a beta-match, we will ask them what they are looking for in a beta (spelling/grammar, specific knowledge of some field, just someone to bounce ideas off of, etc) and we will also have a matching period for writers-betas where betas can look through writer summaries/beta-needs and submit their preferences of which writers they want to/don’t want to beta for and we will match based on those preferences.
